Banksia Green Campground: Your Coastal Escape in Myall Lakes National Park

Nestled between the tranquil waters of Myall Lakes and the beauty of Mungo Beach, Banksia Green Campground offers a classic Aussie camping experience in the heart of Myall Lakes National Park. This campground provides a peaceful retreat, perfect for those seeking a blend of lakeside serenity and coastal adventures.

Setting Up Camp at Banksia Green Campground:

Campsites at Banksia Green Campground are small to medium in size, offering flat, level ground ideal for tents. The sandy base is firm enough for standard tent pegs. It's important to note that there are no powered sites available, so campers should be prepared for off-grid living. Also, there's no camp kitchen, so remember to pack all your cooking gear.

Location and Amenities:

While Banksia Green Campground offers a secluded feel, essential supplies are readily accessible. Hawks Nest, approximately 17 minutes away, boasts an IGA supermarket, and nearby Tea Gardens offers a Coles for even more shopping options.

Firewood is BYO, but fires are allowed in the designated fire pits, perfect for a cosy evening under the stars. For those looking to catch their dinner, beach fishing is a popular activity (though regulations should be checked).

While hiking trails abound throughout Myall Lakes National Park, the heat during a recent visit, combined with the lack of showers at Banksia Green Campground, made hitting the trails a less appealing option. Remember to pack mosquito repellent, as they can be quite prevalent. Flies, however, were minimal during this particular stay, though this can vary seasonally.

Intermittent Telstra reception is available onsite. For a more stable connection, Starlink proves a reliable option, and the open sky makes it ideal for solar panels too. Unfortunately, furry friends will have to stay home, as dogs are not permitted at this campground.

The current rate is $17.43 per night for up to six people per site (prices are subject to change, so it's always best to confirm before booking). During a recent visit, the campground was surprisingly empty, highlighting the importance of checking availability and comparing camping options within Myall Lakes National Park before making a reservation. Keep in mind that sites are close together, so privacy can be limited when the campground is full.

Activities and Access:

A track leads directly from Banksia Green Campground to Mungo Beach, providing easy access to the surf and sand. Myall Lakes is also within easy reach, approximately a 1km walk away, offering swimming and other water activities (though remember the walk to the lake)! With both the lake and the beach so close, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming.

Basic amenities at Banksia Green Campground include one male and one female drop toilet, which were well-stocked with toilet paper during a recent visit. There are no showers on-site, so campers will need to bring their own shower setup for extended stays. A non-potable handwashing tap is available, but it's difficult to access large quantities of water, so it's essential to bring your own supply.

Conveniently located right off a bitumen road, Banksia Green Campground is easily accessible for caravans, tents, campervans, camper trailers, and 2WD vehicles.

Trekie Score: 5 / 10

Banksia Green Campground… hmm. It's a tricky one for me. Location-wise, it's pretty good, nestled between the beach and Myall Lakes, which gives you plenty of options for activities. Getting there was easy, and setting up camp was straightforward enough. But honestly, the campground itself wasn't quite what I'd hoped for. The scenery from the campground wasn't particularly inspiring – just bushland, really. And the facilities are pretty basic – drop toilets and that's about it. No showers, limited water… you've got to be self-sufficient. So, while it's a decent base for exploring the area, the campground itself lacked that special something for me. If I were staying in the region again, I would go 1km down the road to Mungo Brush Campground, where you have access to the beautiful White Tree Bay. I'd give it a Trekie score of 5 out of 10. It's okay, but there are definitely other campgrounds in the area I'd prefer.
