Sharp Park Campground - Your perfect South East QLD Getaway

Sharp Park Campground offers one of the best value camping experiences in South East Queensland, combining accessibility, natural beauty, and excellent facilities at an unbeatable price. Nestled along the scenic Coomera River near Canungra, this popular campground provides the perfect base for exploring the stunning hinterland region while staying close to modern conveniences.

Why Choose Sharp Park Campground for Your Next Adventure

When it comes to affordable camping near the Gold Coast, Sharp Park Campground stands out as an exceptional choice. At just $12 per person per night for unpowered sites or $32 per night for powered sites (accommodating two people), it's hard to find better value anywhere in the region. The campground's proximity to Canungra—just a five-minute drive away—means you're never far from essential supplies, great coffee, or a hearty pub meal.

Campsite Features and Facilities at Sharp Park Campground

The campsites at Sharp Park Campground range from small to medium in size and are situated on flat, grassy terrain that makes setting up camp a breeze. There's no need to worry about levelling your caravan or finding a comfortable spot for your tent - the ground composition is ideal for pegging down, and the flat landscape ensures a comfortable night's sleep.

Vehicle access couldn't be easier, with fully paved roads leading right to the campground entrance. Whether you're driving a 2WD sedan, 4WD, or towing a caravan, you'll have no trouble reaching your campsite.

Modern Amenities in a Natural Setting

While Sharp Park Campground embraces its natural surroundings, it doesn't skimp on essential facilities. The campground features proper flushing toilets, including wheelchair-accessible facilities. There's a wash basin for cleaning up after meals, though dedicated camp kitchen facilities aren't available.

For those who like to stay connected, you'll be pleased to know that both Telstra and Optus provide excellent mobile reception throughout the campground. Working remotely or taking video calls via hotspot is entirely feasible, making this an ideal spot for digital nomads or those who need to stay in touch while enjoying the outdoors.

Natural Attractions and Activities

The Coomera River flows gracefully through Sharp Park Campground, creating a picturesque setting and offering opportunities for a refreshing dip in the shallow waters. Keep your eyes peeled for the campground's most exciting residents - I can confirm platypuses have been spotted in the creek! While the water may be too shallow and rapid-filled for extensive kayaking, it provides a wonderful natural feature for cooling off on warm Queensland days.

Exploring the Surrounding Region

One of Sharp Park Campground's greatest advantages is its strategic location near numerous hiking trails and natural attractions. While there aren't walks departing directly from the campground, you're perfectly positioned to explore Cedar Creek Falls and the numerous trails around Mount Tamborine. The Gold Coast's stunning beaches are only a 30-minute drive away, giving you the best of both worlds—mountain and ocean.

Pet-Friendly Camping

Dog owners will appreciate that Sharp Park Campground welcomes furry family members, provided they're kept on a lead. This makes it an excellent choice for those who refuse to leave their four-legged companions behind on camping adventures.

Solar Solutions

The campground offers a mix of shaded and open areas, allowing campers to choose sites that suit their needs. Solar panel users should note that Sharp Park Campground is surrounded by mountains, so select your campsite carefully and be prepared to reposition panels throughout the day.

What to Know Before You Go

Sharp Park Campground is understandably popular, which means campsites are positioned relatively close together. If you're seeking complete solitude, this may not be your ideal destination, but the friendly atmosphere and sense of community more than compensate for the cozy spacing.

Campfires are permitted in the provided fire pits, adding to the classic camping experience. Insect presence is generally manageable, with only moderate mosquito activity and very few flies, though this can vary depending on the season.

While there are no showers at the campground itself, paid shower facilities are available at the Canungra Showgrounds, just a five-minute drive away—a small inconvenience given the campground's many other advantages.

Trekie Score: 7 / 10

After exploring Sharp Park Campground, I'm giving it a Trekkie Score of 7 out of 10. This rating reflects an excellent all-around camping experience that delivers exceptional value for money. The campground's biggest strengths are its unbeatable pricing ($12 per person per night), prime location just five minutes from Canungra, and solid facilities including proper flushing toilets, potable water, and excellent mobile reception. My personal highlight was spotting platypuses in the Coomera River—an unexpected wildlife encounter that truly elevated the experience!

The missing three points come down to privacy and shower facilities. Sharp Park Campground is deservedly popular, meaning campsites are relatively close together, and there are no onsite showers (though paid facilities are available at Canungra Showgrounds five minutes away). Interestingly, due to the campground's popularity and affordability, there's a community of long-term travellers who regularly rotate between Sharp Park Campground and Canungra Showgrounds, creating a unique atmosphere. Would I return? Absolutely—it's perfect for budget-conscious travellers, families, and pet owners exploring the Canungra region.
